June's NEW

Alright...I've officially failed at my new year's resolution to try something new each month. May got away from me with no new thing.

But don't you fret, and don't you frown...I'm picking right back up with June and boy do I have a whopper of a "new" for you!

My new for June is that I have put myself on a budget! Woo-hoo! Exciting, I know. But this is a big deal for me. I don't even balance my checkbook. I basically keep a mental running tab of about how much money I've got and hope there's enough in there by the end of the month! Unfortunately, it has worked pretty well so far, thus I haven't seen the need for a budget. There have been some months I have come terribly close, but I also squeak by!

With my roommate moving out in about a week, I know I can't be squeaking by anymore. I've been to a financial workshop put on by my church. It was really good. That was about 2 years ago...have I done anything with it? Nope.

Then I went to another financial workshop put on by my pastor and his wife. This one was really good. They basically shared with us what they do as a family. They have 3 kids. The main thing they stressed was having a spending plan.

They've basically made categories of stuff that they need to spend money on. There's your basics like mortgage, food, bills, utilities, etc. but they also have categories for other stuff they like/want. Date nights, birthdays, home decor, etc. Every category has a limit. They just keep the receipts and take the money out of the appropriate category. Once the money is gone for a particular category...it's gone!

Sounds simple, but it just makes so much sense to me!

I started a little something like this last year. Right around this time last year, I started putting money away for Christmas every month. By the time it got here, I paid for everything out of cash and didn't have to keep paying for it after Christmas. It was a GREAT feeling!!

So, tonight I sat down and made my categories. Tomorrow is July 1 and I am eager to start my new budget!! I hope it works for me. I hope it makes sense to me. I really hope it's something I can keep up with!

I'll let ya know...

Because I desperately want to update my blog, I'm going to fill you in on my day today. Put your seat belt on because we're about to move at mach speed.

I did not set my alarm last night, so it was nice to wake up and be able to just lay in bed. Granted, I was awake at 7:30 but, hey, that's the life of a teacher.

I finished 2 loads of laundry after I actually got out of bed.

I then finished up some paperwork for Camp Rocks that's been about 3 weeks overdue and paid some bills online.

It was about lunch time after that, but my fridge and pantry have been bare for about a month now. I was out of town for camp one week, then in Hilton Head the week after that, then performing arts camp after that. So for lunch I had some stale saltines with peanut butter on them...and some twizzlers. I know, I know.

Messed around on facebook and then took an hour nap. Nice.

Woke up and messed around again on blogs, facebook, email, etc. while watching Martha Stewart, Rachel Ray, and Oprah.

So here it is 5:07 pm and I'm still in my pj's. It's getting close to dinner and as previously mentioned I have no food. Can't do crackers again, so looks like I'm gonna have to get dressed and go get some food. Yes, I could just order pizza or something else that delivers, but I'm actually craving mexican, so I 'm thinking it's gonna be a Moe's night!

Top Ten Tuesday

Top ten projects I want to accomplish this summer:

1. Jewelry Organizer

2. Organize files. I brought home about 8 years worth of files from school. (I'm actually almost done with this one!)

3. Pressure wash my house. Any suggestions?

4. Organize/Decorate/Design my spare bedroom. My roommate who's been with me for about 4 years now is getting married!!

5. Read this book:

Recommended to me by my good friend, Kristen

6. Clean my garage. It's not cluttered, just dirty. I can honestly say that I've probably never swept it since I moved in almost 6 years ago.

7. Go to a chiropractor. About 10 years ago I fell out of an attic. Just slid all the way down the stairs on my rear. It hurt a little at first, but honestly I was fine. Well, I've come to realize that I probably broke/fractured my tailbone because I noticed that if I sat back certain ways, I could really feel it. Fast forward to about a year ago is when I started noticing that my lower back was now beginning to hurt. It has really intensified the last few months. It's not excruciating and it's not all the time, but bending over certain ways really takes a concerted effort on my part. I can also tell that if I sit or stand for really long periods of time it hurts. So I'm thinking I need an adjustment or something. But my fear of doctors has prevented me from going sooner. However with summer here I now have no excuses. We'll see...

8. GET ON A BUDGET!! With my roommate moving out in few days, I'll be missing that extra money I've been depending on! I'd like to get into coupons, but I don't know if I have the patience for it.

9. Spend one day where I don't leave the house.

10. Blog more!!

What in the World?

"Who am I?"

"Why am I here?"

Ahhh...the age old questions. While I don't necessarily have these questions in my life, I do have these questions when it comes to my blog.

You've probably noticed that I haven't regularly posted lately. I've just kind of been in a funk lately about what to write about. I can't get any thoughts together that are of interest.

Sure I could tell you about how I ran in my third Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure

or how I'm finally done with school

or how Amber, her fiance and I went to Screen on the Green again this year

or about Camp Rocks '09

or even the wedding I went to last night at a beautiful place.

But other than my mom, would any of you really want to read about that?!?!

I've come to realize that I just don't have an interesting enough life to write about my daily happenings. Believe me, you don't want to know how I'm sitting on the couch right now watching the Today show!

Nor do I fit into some category of bloggers:

~I'm not a SAHM
~I'm not extremely crafty
~I'm not a fabulous cook
~I don't have an extraordinary talent

If I had to fall into some sort of category, I guess it would be the "single gal" category. Ugh... But do you really want to read about how I'm so tired of being single and long to start the next chapter of my life...being a wife? I just feel like I'm complaining and whining all the time.

So I'm back to nothing. No real niche to fit into. I'm open to suggestions.

Please help me!

I don't want to let my blog go, but I do want to serve some sort of purpose. I want to be known for something. Any ideas?!?!
